I-90 Westbound Avalanche Bridge Open to Traffic

Snoqualmie Pass, WA - After opening the eastbound avalanche bridge and roadway to traffic on August 16, 2016, Atkinson crews began constructing the 1,200-ft. long westbound avalanche bridge in September. By performing work on an accelerated schedule, crews were able to complete the drilled shafts and columns for all nine bridge piers and seven of the nine column caps before the winter shutdown period that began on December 12, 2016. Crews mobilized back up to the mountain at the beginning of April with an aggressive goal of completing the westbound I-90 avalanche bridge, over one mile of retaining walls, and the westbound roadway PCCP paving, barrier, and striping before the 2017 winter shutdown. Crews worked double shifts and weekends to achieve this major project milestone on November 9, 2017.
