Tucson Electric Power has awarded Atkinson Power a $17 million contract for the Tortolita to Pinal Central 500kV Transmission Line. This project marks the largest competitive-bid award and first 500kV project for Atkinson Power since the company’s inception in 2011.

The project consists of 40 miles of new 500kV transmission line from the Tortolita Substation in Red Rock to the Pinal Central Substation in Casa Grande. Atkinson crews will construct the line on steel monopoles, which are set on drilled caisson anchor bolt foundations with three-bundled 1590 ACSR conductor, a steel shield wire, and an optical ground wire.

The completion of this project will improve electric reliability, expand access to renewable energy projects, and meet future energy demands in the Tucson metropolitan area and surrounding region.
